Yea, we give thanks.

picture of a plush pilgrim giraffeWe are truly thankful that pilgrim giraffes came to these shores in search of religious freedom and juicy leaves on high branches.

We are thankful for the perfect pecan pie recipe. We do the variation that includes a few tablespoons of bourbon, cuz ya gotta have bourbon in a pecan pie. It's in the oven as we write this.

We are thankful for our local wine store, which has never steered us wrong in the 3 years we've been shopping there. We can't wait to try the pinot noir and/or zin with the turkey tomorrow.

We are thankful that at least one kid in our library district thinks enough of the library's IM reference service to tell a friend who lives more than 50 miles away to IM us for help with her history fair project. Which happened today.

For these things, and more, we thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Here to preserve disorder.

Over at librarism.com, we've updated our "Chicago is the center of the library webiverse" page. We had a few names to add, and some site owners moved out of town (gasp!) since we put the page together a while back. Most important, we noticed that Aaron's old URL now redirects to a rape porn site. So, we wanted to fix that. Although we'll consider putting the link back up if he tells us he's supplementing his meager librarian salary with revenue from that site; we're willing to help a brother out.

One of the Chicago-area folks we added is ricklibrarian, who, coincidentally, works with Aaron, and who has proposed some IM shorthand for Monty Python fans. We submitted a few more suggestions in the comments.

BTW, even though we still follow the tradition of not going Christmas shopping until after Thanksgiving, we don't mind at all if you want to get an early start in the librarism.com store. Cuz we know you know someone who wants a Zen Librarian t-shirt.

Quote scraps from the heap.

While cleaning off the desk, we found several scraps of paper with quotations we jotted down during our television viewage over the last few months:

"Ever read a book that changed your life? Me neither." Jim Gaffigan (comedian seen on some stand-up show on Comedy Central)

"Here's another thing: The book can also be a hat!" Peter Griffin in a book discussion group, Family Guy.

"Girl, you got serious librarian hair." Robot Chicken, "Pimp My Sister" sketch.

"Remember, kids: The most important part of reading is reading between the lines." MAD TV, "Reading Caboose" sketch.

"Cool comes with a pay cut." Rob Zombie, interviewed on Henry's Film Corner.
