Number 9, Number 9, Number 9 ...

Saw this on Fark, sharing the joy ...

Author John Scalzi blogged a list of things to do today. Sure, he plugs a couple books that look like they're good reads, but what you really want to do is click the link for Item Number 9. Had us in tears, we were laughing so hard. What're ya waitin' for?

Remembering 9/11.

Yes, we remember the victims and heroes of the attack 5 years ago. Our flag is displayed outside our home today as a memorial.

And we remember our reaction when we turned on the TV after our bike ride that morning: "Holy fucking shit! Holy fucking shit!"

And we remember our kid's reply when we explained after school what happened that day: "The bad people won't attack us here, because there's nothing in Villa Park."

We should all remember something that President Bush mentioned during a press conference last month, something that 46% of Americans -- and about two-thirds of Republicans -- don't seem to recall:

Bush (in an answer to a question about Iraq): The terrorists attacked us and killed 3,000 of our citizens before we started the freedom agenda in the Middle East. They were ...

Reporter: What did Iraq have to do with that?

Bush: What did Iraq have to do with what?

Reporter: The attacks upon the World Trade Center.

Bush: Nothing.

We remember the cathartic laughter when The Onion published its special issue two weeks after the attacks. Especially this piece. (The original banner headline on The Onion's homepage that week coincidentally echoed our first reaction to the WTC attacks.)

And we just got an email with a link to this satirical "Read" poster reminding us what our president was doing and kept doing for a while after being told what was happening.

Write a Banned Books version of "The Aristocrats" joke!

In celebration of the upcoming embarassment known as Banned Books Week, you're invited to submit your own library version of The Aristocrats joke. We came up with this idea because we just saw the movie for about the fifth time, and some bibliobloggers recently talked about applying the "yes, and" technique from improv performance to library management. Plus, the guy in the ALA posters looks like he could be in an act called The Aristocrats.

You can read our version of the joke (completely improvised as we typed it, except for one minor edit to improve the flow) and send in your own improvised masterpiece by clicking here. If you didn't like the movie, do not click on that link. (Maybe, don't even click if you haven't seen the movie.) Don't say we didn't warn you.
