The Laughing Librarian presents:

ALA Conference 2000: A Review in Haiku

by Brian Smith

I commuted to the Annual Conference for two days and was inspired by the poetry stage in the exhibit hall.

Near McCormick Place
Lake Michigan, parking lots
Not very much else

Meeting room I seek
It is not in this building
But four miles away

The room lights are dimmed
PowerPoint slides, speaker drones
I can't stay awake

Look at e-paper
The future of publishing
Books like window shades

E-books getting big
Librarians must take care
Vendors don't screw us

Website redesign
Do your homework and plan well
Usability

Exhibit hall fun
Ask questions they can't answer
I play "Stump the Rep"

To get a toy cat
I must sit through a demo
Software I don't need

AIP buffet
Anarchists nice to chat with
Free food but cash bar
